Mel Gibson caught our photographer red-handed yesterday at a restaurant in Brentwood ... after our guy stole a joke Mel dropped six months ago and tried to pawn it off as his own.
The blatant thievery occurred after Mel finished dining with "Lethal Weapon" director Richard Donner ... when our guy not-so-cleverly decided to call Mel -- who recently had his eighth kid -- "octodad."
Too bad Mel dropped his "Octo-Mel" line on "Leno" back in May ... and Mel was sure to let our guy know about it.

With a giant smile on his face -- and stains on his shirt -- Mel Gibson took over a ping pong table at a bar in NYC this weekend and played a little table tennis with his pal Josh Brolin.
While most of the spectators surrounding the bar room athletes were pounding a drink of some sort, Gibson only had his hands on his paddle.
No word on how he got home.

In what seems to be their first public display of affection, Mel Gibson put his arm around his unwed pregnant 39-year-old girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva after they broke bread in Manhattan on Wednesday.
Oksana is due with the 53-year-old conservative Catholic's eighth child some time this fall.

Mel Gibson's 2006 DUI is now officially off his record.
Judge Lawrence Mira just signed legal documents in Malibu, expunging the misdemeanor DUI from Mel's record.
The judge noted the conviction still is relevant for "gun control purposes." It can also be used as a prior conviction if Gibson gets popped for DUI in the future.
Mel's lawyer, Blair Berk, requested the motion to dismiss on September 21 after Mel successfully completed the terms of his three-year probation.
So, it's kinda like a legal version of Yom Kippur ... he atoned for his sins and he gets a clean slate. Mazel Tov, Mel.

UPDATE: 11:06 AM ET. We've learned no one is expected to show up in court. The judge has the legal papers from Gibson's lawyer, Blair Berk, in his chambers and we're guessing he's going to sign them and expunge Mel's DUI today.
The Mel Gibson DUI/"The-Jews-are-responsible-for-all-the-wars-in-the-world" saga may come to an end in a little more than 2 hours. Mel's lawyer will ask a judge to expunge the conviction from his record.
Mel was arrested in July, 2006 on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Initially authorities told TMZ the arrest occurred "without incident." But later that day, TMZ obtained 4 pages of the deputy's original notes that were taken out of the revised report -- 4 pages with a blow-by-blow of Mel's anti-Semitic rant.
Mel pled no contest to misdemeanor DUI and was placed on 3 years probation. Gibson has completed all the terms of his probation and it's not unusual at all for his lawyer to request that the conviction be expunged at the end of the probation period.
We'll be live streaming the action in Malibu at 8:30 AM PT, so stay tuned.

Mel Gibson will ask a judge to expunge the DUI heard round the world.
We've obtained legal papers (on Yom Kippur, funny enough) revealing that Gibson's lawyer, Blair Berk, will go to court in exactly one week and ask the judge to remove the DUI from Gibson's record -- because he has successfully completed all the terms of his 3-year probation.
You may recall Gibson was arrested in Malibu back in July, 2006 and went on an anti-Semitic rant that authorities tried to bury. TMZ broke the story of the tirade after obtaining four inflammatory pages that had been removed from the deputy's report.

ABC News -- the organization Roone Arledge and Peter Jennings built -- has turned into a bad version of US Weekly ... wussing out during an interview with Mel Gibson's baby mama.
Oksana Grigorieva, the chick who got knocked up by Mel, was on "GMA" this morning. She was booked solely for her singing prowess ... so the "journalist" said. We're sure that's because Oksana was a household name long before she hooked up with the King of Malibu.
Not a single question was asked about Mel, her relationship with him, his marriage, her out-of-wedlock pregnancy with a very religious man -- nothing. But good news -- they really focused on her singing!

Law enforcement sources tell us the man who filed a battery claim against Mel Gibson is making the story up and no criminal charges will be pursued.
We're told after interviewing the man -- who claims Gibson tore his shirt after he attempted to take a picture of the star at Playhouse in Hollywood -- cops believe it was impossible for Gibson to have even made contact with him. They tell us Gibson was wedged in a booth with his pregnant girlfriend and couldn't have grabbed the guy's shirt.
We're told the "victim" was asked to walk away at least 3 times before the alleged incident. Security told him no photography was allowed in the club, but he persisted.
Cops say witnesses tell the same story -- the guy is making up allegations of battery. No one saw his shirt ripped when he left the club.
Cops say it's a civil matter at best, and they don't expect to even interview Gibson.
UPDATE: A rep for the Playhouse acknowledges "a minor incidence occurred between a persistent photographer and Mr. Gibson's party" and that "no one was injured."

This is a photo of the guy Mel Gibson allegedly went off on last night -- after the actor reportedly ripped apart his t-shirt for trying to snap a pic of him and his GF Oksana Grigorieva.
As we previously reported,the "victim" went to LAPD Hollywood Division and filed a battery report against Gibson.
We're told Gibson allegedly ripped the shirt after telling the dude and his friend to please walk away and not take pictures.
Law enforcement tells us the "victim" suffered no injuries ... the whole thing is over a torn shirt. This looks like a small claims court case if we've ever seen one.
